THE NEED FOR AN EQUINE
CLINIC IN HILTON, NY
I'm writing this in memory of our beautiful, sweet straight Egyptian
stallion Shaikhspear. At 8:00 pm Sunday, August 29, one hour after being
brought in and fed, I found him soaked with sweat and colicing. My vet
was 2-1/2 hours away on another colic call. After calling three vets,
and more than three hours later, there was only one ending for Shaikh.
I live in Hilton, NY within walking distance of a veterinary clinic. I
called there, but received no call back. With phone still in hand a
friend drove me down there. I begged him to please come put my horse out
of his torment. He said "NO" and "NO" to giving me something to ease his
pain. "NO" was the answer with "NO" compassion for this animal
Our gentle stallion who just weeks before stood quietly in his stall
allowing twelve 4H children to touch and pet him, loving every minute of
it, had to suffer the horrible, painful, twisting, flipping of severe
colic to his last breath. When within walking distance there could have
been help.
To me this vet has no heart. To all pet owners, horse, dog or cat, keep
this in mind and heart. He could have eased his pain, but chose to do
nothing.
As for our sweet Shaikh, I removed his halter and let him go free over
the Rainbow bridge.
The vet that did come had never been to our farm and got lost on the
way. I do thank her for finally putting an end to Shaikh's torment.
This brings to mind two things: one, the need for an equine vet in
Hilton, NY, and you can't count on a neighbor who is in the business of
helping animals.
Sadly,
